Every January, RMPR gathers for a New Year’s Resolution party, a refreshing alternative to the crowded calendar of December holiday celebrations. Each of us, along with our spouse, shares with the group our resolution for that new year. They span from personal to professional and shades in between.
Now that it’s March (!), I checked in with everyone to see if we’re on track.
Rose: Our fearless leader and hostess with the mostess hit “repeat” on her 2010 resolution, which she successfully achieved. She decided to continue being a good gift giver by collecting gifts throughout the year, since it worked so well in 2010 and alleviated the last-minute pre-Christmas shopping frenzy. Rose has a couple of trips planned for the spring and late summer, so her family and friends are in for thoughtful treasures collected during her travels.Image may be NSFW.

Eva: Our resident social media advocate and (ahem) smart phone addict, Eva took her 2011 resolution decision seriously – she committed to go seven days “off the grid” by using no media and technology. Eva’s response to my check-in is best left in her own words: “I left my cell phone at the office one night. It was tough but I made it 12 hours without a cell phone. Did use my laptop that night so it wasn’t complete cold turkey.”
Joel: As a father of four energetic boys ages 3-13, Joel is busy with work, parenting, church, more sporting events than any of us can count, and still squeezes in time with his lovely wife. His 2011 resolution is to weight 227 lbs. or less in order to qualify for health-related discounts, and, of course, get back to that college athlete physique. Just two months in to the year, Joel is making great progress, having already lost eleven lbs, eating well and working out several times a week. Nice work!
Andrea: My 2011 goal is to fully complete my time sheets on a weekly basis. I love my job, but time sheets are necessary evil and I’ve been known to procrastinate a bit. So far, I’ve been doing a solid job.
Amanda: Amanda’s resolution for 2011 is to run a half marathon. Last year she resolved to run a 10k, and she succeeded (it helps that her husband is a marathoner). When I checked in with Amanda, she cheerily let me know that she has registered for Grandma’s Half Marathon held in Duluth, Minn., in June, and that she begins training today. Run, Amanda, run!
Laura Wifler (LJ): LJ, our “greenest” homeowner (pun intended) made her resolution planting an herb garden. It’s still too snowy and cold in Minnesota to start the actual work, but LJ reassures us that she’s still planning away. Can’t wait for the catered lunch specials!
Laura Griffith: Laura declared that in 2011, she wants to match her husband’s 2010 weight loss. When we talked, she said she has gained weight, not lost any. I don’t think she’s giving herself enough credit. She’s svelte.
Check in later this year for an update on RMPR’s new year’s resolution progress!
